We all remember being kids on Halloween. The joy of eating all that candy as fast as you could. Picking out your favorites and setting aside the few pieces of candy you did not like or even trading pieces at school or with family. At times some of us may have even imagined how nice it would be to trade our less desired candy for a favorite piece or even for money.

Many dentists around the United States have opted for a candy buyback program. $1 for 1 lb. This is a great idea! The candy, which your little ones don’t necessarily need is taken as part of the trade and given out as charity. This great idea keeps your kid’s teeth away from some of that harmful candy and also lends itself to doing good. The best thing of all, your child may be able to take home some cash!

One such program, Operation Gratitude, has more than 2,500 dentists and orthodontists participating. When the program first started it only had 700. The Operation sent all the candy to troops overseas as care packages. This idea sounds like a perfect response to Halloween from the dental community. What a great morale boost for the troops.
