Finding a Dentist
Choosing a new dentist can be a big decision for you and your family. It can be intimidating to trust your dental health to someone with whom you’ve had no experience. By finding out some important information and doing a little homework, you can make sure you’re finding a dentist in Aurora who will make the best fit for your family. This knowledge can ease your stress about making the right choice.
First things first, what do all those letters behind the dentist’s name mean? Technically, DDS stands for Doctor of Dental Surgery and DMD stands for Doctor of Dental Medicine. But if you’re thinking one is more educated than the other, you’re wrong! Both DDS and DMDs studied the same things and earned the same degree. These titles are just to let you know that the dentist has received the proper training to perform certain dental treatments.
Questions to Ask Your Dentist
Before choosing a dentist, it’s important to ask a few key questions first. The best way to do this is to call the dental office and talk to the receptionist. They will often be able to fill you in on key information about the dentist’s office such as:
- What training the dentist received – Ask about the dentist’s clinical experience and training in any of the procedures you feel you may need.
- Where the office is located – This isn’t just important for the sake of convenience, but it’s also important to consider how long it will take you to get to the office in the event of a dental emergency.
- Emergency care and office hours – Find out if the office has emergency hours or if they are available on weekends or evenings.
- Comfort options – Ask about any amenities the office may offer in order to make your treatments more comfortable. This is especially important if you suffer from dental anxiety.
- Insurance and payment plans – Make sure the office accepts your dental insurance and be aware of what your out-of-pocket expenses may amount to.
You can use the conversation with the dental receptionist as an opportunity to gauge the knowledge and friendliness of the office staff. This can go a long way towards easing your stress and helping you to know that you’ve made the right decision!

What Others Are Saying About Summit Smiles Dental
I love Dr. Wolfe and his team. They are so warm, friendly, and helpful. I feel like part of the family – they know you and your needs. We have been taking out daughter since she was a year old. The hygienists are very gentle and take great care of you. If you’re looking for a dentist this is the place for you and your family.
This was my first visit to Summit Smiles and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. I’ve never had my teeth cleaned so well. I brought my 4 year old daughter and she had a great experience also! We will be back!
Great and friendly staff! Very knowledgeable! They made me feel at home. Dr. Wolfe, was great! His Assistant and the hygienist were very welcoming and explained every process to me. The front desk staff extremely helpful and kind.
I have been impressed with this practice since the moment I first got over my dental apprehensions and called. Jennifer was warm and personable and did not give me a lecture when I told her how long it had been since I last saw the dentist. I had my first initial visit today and Jennifer was just as warm and personable in person with a warm greeting and providing updates as to what was going on and when I would be seen. I was taken to the exam room promptly at 9 AM for a 9 AM appointment and by fate was matched up with Kaity as my hygienist. Kaity did an excellent job in obtaining sometimes difficult to obtain X-rays and I even found out we had some things in common. The doctor came in and went over the X-rays and we derived a treatment plan going forward. There were recommendations but no pressure and when they found out my insurance would not cover some producers immediately they volunteered on their own the insurance allowed price as what they would accept on the spot. I felt in such great care that I went ahead and booked my two deep cleanings and eventually I’ll even get my wisdom teeth pulled here. Finally, they were completely up front with charges. I had the pleasure to speak to Tonya who provided me with a detailed printout of the charges and a chance to immediately schedule all or a portion of the work. So, if you made it this far, this is an outstanding practice from the top to the bottom and after my initial visit I would highly recommend them.
Our family loves this practice! From Jennifer at the front desk who always seems to remember our names to the hygienists and Dr. Wolfe himself, everyone is very professional but also laid back and personable. Conversations not only about our dental health but our families and goings on as well. Love, love, love Summit Smiles Dental!
