By Dr. Eric Wolfe

I get it. Thinking about getting a dental implant can be overwhelming. Patients walk into my office everyday with concerns, questions and even a little bit of fear.

“Does it hurt?”

“Is it really worth it?”

“What if my body rejects it?”

These are all valid worries, and I want to take a moment to talk to you as someone who truly wants you to feel comfortable and confident in making the right choice for your smile.Let’s look together at some common things I hear from patients when it comes to dental implants…

“I Wish I Had Done This Sooner”

I hear this all the time. In fact, one of our patients,Monte, told me after his procedure with tears in his eyes:

“Now I enjoy life with renewed confidence and happiness. I no longer feel that I embarrass my family. I cane at anything I like. I often wish I had undergone the procedure ten years earlier!

”Monte’s story is so common. People wait because they worry about pain, cost or the idea of surgery. But once they take the leap, they always say it was life changing.“What Exactly is a Dental Implant?” So many patients ask me this. Think of a dental implant as a replacement tooth that feels and functions just like the real thing. It has three parts:

  1. The titanium post that acts like the root of your tooth, placed into your jawbone.
  2. The abutment (a small connector) that sits on top of the post.
  3. The crown (the part you see) that looks and feels like your natural tooth.

Unlike dentures, which can slip and require daily maintenance, implants stay secure, strong and permanent. They are designed to last a lifetime with proper care.

“But I Hate the Dentist”

Yes, I hear this, too.Trust me, I understand. Dental anxiety is real, and itis one of the biggest reasons people avoid getting the care they need. Here are some things I want you to know to help ease that anxiety:

  • We offer sedation options to keep you comfortable.
  • The procedure is far easier than you think. Most patients say it’s less painful than a tooth extraction.
  • We take our time to listen to you. If you need a break, we pause. If you have concerns, we address them. You’re never just another patient here. One of our patients, Sandra, told us:

“I spent a year and a half discussing my options with Dr. Wolfe, asking countless questions! Dr. Wolfe recommended an upper implant-supported bridge, assuring me it would provide a more satisfying out come than dentures. After referrals to two of Dr. Wolfe’s partner oral surgeons, I selected the one I felt most comfortable with. I’m so pleased with both the referral and Dr. Wolfe’s guidance!”

Is It Worth the Cost?

Here’s something I tell my patients all the time: A dental implant is an investment, not an expense.

Yes, implants cost more upfront than bridges or dentures. But consider these facts:

  • Implants last a lifetime. By contrast, bridges and dentures need replacement every five to ten years.
  • Implants protect your bone health. When you lose a tooth, the bone in that area starts to deteriorate. Implants prevent bone loss and keep your facial structure intact.
  • Implants involve no extra maintenance costs. No adhesives, no special cleaners. Just brush, floss and visit us regularly.

For many, the cost of not getting an implant (i.e. frequent denture repairs, struggling to chew and feeling self-conscious) is far higher than the upfront cost of getting one.

What’s the Recovery Like?

Most patients tell me,“That was easier than I expected.”  You may have some mild soreness for a few days, but we give you all the tools you need to heal comfortably. Before you know it, you will be back to eating, laughing and living life as usual.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

I know this is a big decision. But I also know that patients like Monte who have gone through this process tell me the same thing:

“I wish I had done this sooner.”

So, if you are ready to explore your options, schedule a consultation. We will sit down, talk through your concerns and find a plan that works for you. No pressure – just answers and support. We are here for you.
